Once upon a time, there was a young English woman who moved to Spain in search of a new musical sound. Jenny had performed her first concert at a festival in the United Kingdom when a fellow musician on the double bass invited her to Madrid. The pair added a flamenco guitarist and a colleague who, instead of drums, played the cajón, an extraordinary Spanish box.
With Jenny’s compositions, the foursome started playing on the street and in venues throughout Spain performing an international fusion of sound that mixes jazz rhythms, rockabilly, folk, flamenco, reggae, Veracruz, country and cumbia. Their first album went gold with a combination of songs in English and Spanish.
Jenny & the Mexicats are coming to Arlington in support of their 2017 album, Open Sea / Mar Abierto, which is a fusion of international sounds born on the streets of Madrid. You can attend their concert on Sunday, June 16th at Levitt Pavilion.
Concerts are FREE and family friendly! The Levitt is an open-lawn seating, outdoor concert venue. Visitors should bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Picnics and coolers are welcome. For additional information, please call 817-543-4301 or email info@levittarlington.org.
