Second Thought Theatre, in collaboration with Circle Theatre, is closing their 2019 season with the world premiere of What We Were by acclaimed local playwright Blake Hackler.
What We Were tells the story of three sisters, who suffered a childhood of abuse. After disappearing 17 years ago, Tessa resurfaces. It seems she has spent her adult life on the run, moving from state to state and foster family to foster family, pretending to be a teenager. When Nell gets word that Tessa has been found out, Nell must decide how much of her past she’s willing to face in order to save her sister.
Now, adults, each lives in some degree of denial, but the lies are starting to become more unbearable than the truth. Spanning twenty years, What We Were traces the lives of the three women as they find their way back to each other. Weaving scenes from the past and present, the play explores responsibility, what we do to cope, and the very difficult work of healing.
Second Thought Theatre provides an intimate and unique theatrical experience by empowering top local artists to take risks, and by showcasing writers who boldly tackle the difficult and demanding questions of our rapidly changing world. Tickets to What We Were are $25.
